Stem rooting at the base; laxly 5-leaved. Leaves obliquely subovate-elliptic, acutely acuminate, mucronate, base acutely acuminate, with 3 larger and more finer, curved nerves, mid-rib dorsally prominent, laxly obliquely reticulate-veined, when dried membranous, 8.5-11 by 2.7-4.5 cm; petiole conspicuous, those of the upper leaves shorter, including the tubular sheath up to 6.5 cm long. Inflorescence erect, elongated, densely many-flowered, with the flowers turned to all sides, peduncle. c. 31 cm long, glabrous, above sparsely pubescent, with small appressed, below distant and leaf-like, above clearly denser and smaller, bract-like scales; rachis c. 11 cm long, subappressed crispate-pubescent. Floral ovate, long linear-acuminate, sparsely finely ciliate, 1-nerved, 0.75 by 0.2 cm Flowers very small, closed. Lateral sepals obliquely ovate, pointed, subacute, concave, 1-nerved, almost 0.3 cm long, 0.18 cm wide. Petals cohering helmet-like with the median sepal, shortly clawed at the base, apex oblique, contracted, obtuse, 0.25 by 0.08 cm Lip appressed to the column, with a concavity inside, ovate, acuminate, with a transverse row of 6-8 conical, pointed, backwards pointing papillae in the concavity, in front of this with a conspicuous, transverse, backwards pointing, obtuse thickening, 0.23 cm by 0.16 cm, when flattened ovate-triangular, triangular-acuminate, more or less acute, 0.23 long, the very tip 0.05 by 0.07 cm Column malformed in the type specimen. Anther cucullate, cordate, apex contracted, obtuse, apiculate, 0.13 cm long. Ovary twisted, glabrous, 0.63 cm long. (After Smith, 1934, as Goodyera callosa J.J.Sm.).


Flower whitish.

Terrestrial in upper montane forest in shaded positions. Altitude 1580-1850 m.
