Phreatia quinquelobulata

Phreatia quinquelobulata J.J.Sm., Nova Guinea 14 (1929) 489, pl. 81, fig. 130

Type: Feuilletau de Bruyn 18 (holo BO, spirit material)

Stem short, c. 5-leaved. Leaves narrowly linear, strongly folded (always?), obtuse, unequally bilobulate with a short obtuse mucro between the lobules, narrowed towards the base, thin-textured, to 7 by 0.35 cm; sheaths tubular, 0.7 cm long, towards the base dilated and clasping each other, in the apical part wide open and undulate, broader than the base of the leaf blade, prominently nerved. Inflorescences axillary, much shorter than the leaves, rather laxly many-flowered; peduncle 1 cm long, with a few small, tubular, acuminate, keeled scales; rachis angular, 1.5-2.3 cm long. Floral bracts persistent, patent, oblong, acute, concave, with incurved margins, to 0.2 cm long. Flowers minute. Median sepal triangular, subobtuse, 1-nerved, 0.08 by 0.06 cm. Lateral sepals obliquely triangular, subacute, 1-nerved, 0.1 by 0.08 cm. Petals obliquely oblong-subelliptic, obtuse, 1-nerved, 0.08 cm long, almost 0.05 cm wide. Lip clawed, 0.08 cm long, 3-nerved; claw concave, transversely angular-subelliptic, 0.03 cm wide, with a conspicuous, transverse, gland-like callus (two merged calli?), in the apical part slightly constricted; blade in outline suborbicular, 0.05 by 0.06 cm, shortly obtusely 5-lobulate, at the base broadly cuneate, apparently glabrous. Column very short, at the apex truncate, almost 0.05 cm long; clinandrium concave, angular-orbicular; stigma transversely slit-like; column-foot short. Anther cucullate, 0.04 cm wide, transversely quadrangular, at the apex shortly obtuse-angular, connective swollen. Ovary obovoid-fusiform, almost 0.1 cm long; Pedicel much thinner, 0.03 cm long.
